1. Self Leveling and Self Cleaning.
With their self-leveling technology, LulzBot have taken away the chore and frustration which can come from having to manually level the print bed before every print. There are four metal discs, one on each corner of the print bed. The extruder uses these to make sure the bed is level during the auto-leveling process. The extruder is also self-cleaning. This means it will automatically purge any left over filament before your start the next print job.
2. Heated Print Bed With Large Print Area.
The LulzBot 6 has one of the largest print areas available of any desktop 3D printer in its class. The maximum build volume is 11.02 inches x 11.02 inches x 9.8 inches high. This means you can print much larger objects or even several small objects all at the same time.
The heated print bed has a PEI (polyetherimide) covering to ensure that your prints will adhere without any problems. It can reach a maximum temperature of 248 degrees Fahrenheit which is suitable for a large variety of different filaments.
3. Modular Tool Head With Metal Hot End.
The hot end is all metal and can reach temperatures of up to 300 degree Celsius (572 degrees Fahrenheit) which means that this printer can handle most filaments available on the market. This opens up a whole world of interesting and exciting printing possibilities.
The tool head is also a true modular design. This makes it easy to swap print heads if you decide that you want to upgrade to perhaps a dual extruder . It has one cooling fan for the print head and dual filament coolers.
4. Large LCD Screen And SD Card Slot.
This 3D printer has a large LCD screen so that you can operate the printer without having to connect it to your computer if you wish. The screen is relatively easy to use and intuitive. There’s also an SD card slot and the printer comes with a 4BG SD card. This is useful for storing your sliced print projects on, ready for printing later if you wish.
5. Supports More Than 30 Different Filament Types.
With the Lulzbot TAZ 6 you have the freedom to use almost any filament material that you want. It is specifically designed to use 3mm filaments and works well with PLA, ABS, HIPS, Nylon Copolymers, Wood, Metal & Stone PLA composites, Polycarbonate, PVA and others. Are There Upgrades Available For This 3D Printer?
The LulzBot TAZ 6 comes standard with a single extruder tool head. For more experienced 3D printing enthusiasts and professionals there are additional tool heads available which are extremely easy to install. These include:
Dual Extruder Tool Head.
This tool head has two extruders allowing you to print with different colors or materials without having to change the filament mid-print. This is very useful for when you want a two color print or when you need important support structures for your print job.
Flexystruder Tool Head.
If you’re planning to do a lot of prints with flexible filament such as NinjaFlex and SemiFlex, the Flexystruder tool head is highly recommended. This tool head is especially designed to work with these flexible type filaments which means you can print stretchy props, wearables and costumes. LulzBot advises that if you use flexible filament you should apply some PVA glue onto the print bed to allow these to adhere better during the printing process.
FlexyDually Tool Head.
This tool head has a dual extruder and is specifically designed for flexible filament. It allows you to print with 2 colors to create even more versatility in your print jobs. LulzBot strongly advise however, that you only use this tool head for flexible filament and not non-flex filament like PLA or ABS as this can cause excessive wear to the extruder.
On top of these upgrades, there are also many spare parts available for the LulzBot printer. There is even an acrylic enclosure available which protects your printer from drafts and cold as well as excessive dust.
What Type Of Assistance Is Available When I Purchase This Printer?
Apart from LulzBot’s very responsive customer support team, there are a large number of tutorials available on the LulzBot website and also a forum. The forum has sections on hardware, software and filament as well as a development section.
The tutorials include lots of tips and tricks as well as troubleshooting and how to use the software. There are also some excellent maintenance tutorials.
On top of that there are also a huge amount of print files available on Thingiverse which are designed for the LulzBot TAZ 6.
Does The LulzBot 3D Printer Require A Lot Of Maintenance?
This printer requires very little ongoing maintenance apart from some cleaning of the linear rods and the teeth of the hobbed bolt in the extruder.
You may also periodically need to check the belt tensions and adjust the filament tension. It’s also advised to ensure that the fan/control box is kept free from dust.
About once every three months you should check that the set screws on the stepper motor pulleys are tight and also check the small gear on the extruder. Also check all other screws to ensure that they are tight as well.
Because this printer is self cleaning and auto leveling, that’s about all the maintenance that is required.
